The main indications for egg donation is early menopause, repeated failures of fertility treatment cycles, patients with poor response to gonadotropin administration, women with Turner syndrome, women at menopause and women who have undergone ovarian surgery, chemotherapy or radiation.
Egg donation is an anonymous process in Greece, so the couple does not have access to the personal information of the donor and the donor cannot know the couple and later the child who may be born from this treatment.
The donor goes through the process of ovarian stimulation and oocyte retrieval. The collected eggs are donated to the couple, fertilized with the husband's sperm and the resulting embryos are transferred to the wife’s womb.
The egg donors are young women who are willingly offer their eggs to couples who need them. Prior to the beginning of the donation program, the donor is required to go through some tests such as virological control and screening for sexually transmitted diseases (HIV I-II, hepatitis, syphilis, chlamydia, ureaplasma, CMV, vlennoroia).
