Embryo Transfer

Frequently Asked Questions for Assisted Reproduction

Embryo Transfer

The embryo transfer, which is the placement of the embryos into the woman’s womb, can be performed on the 2nd, 3rd or 5th day after the oocyte collection. Embryo transfer is a simple and painless procedure which is completed within a few minutes. By using a special catheter and ultrasound visualization, the doctor places the embryos at the appropriate position in the woman’s uterus. The number of embryos which will be transferred depends on the quality of the embryos, the age of the woman, the number of previous treatment attempts and the personal concerns of the couple on the possibility of having multiple gestation.

After the embryo transfer, the woman rests in the recovery room of our unit for about thirty and is advised to exercise calm and relaxed in-home activities for the next five days. The woman can gradually return to her daily activities and her work, avoiding excess fatigue.
