IntraCytoplasmic Sperm Injection – ICSI

Frequently Asked Questions for Assisted Reproduction

IntraCytoplasmicSperm Injection – ICSI

For couples with very poor sperm quality (low mobility, low concentration, poor morphology), when the spermatozoa have been surgically retrieved from the testis or the epidydimis, when preimplantation diagnosis is to be preformed or for couples with previously failed attempts, a more invasive fertilization method is recommended.
In these cases fertilization is performed with IntraCytoplasmic Sperm Injection – ICSI. In ICSI, the embryologist chooses a single motile spermatozoon with normal morphology, immobilizes it and places it inside the oocyte with the use of special equipment.
