Testicular Biopsy - Surgical Sperm Retrieval from the Testis and Epididymis

In cases where the ejaculation is not possible or the ejaculated sperm does not contain normal and motile spermatozoa, the doctor may advice for testicular biopsy. This is a procedure performed under general anesthesia by specialized urologist. During this procedure the urologist extracts small pieces of testicular tissue and the embryologist tries to detect spermatozoa that could be used for fertilization. Testicular biopsy is the last effort to use the husband’s sperm for fertilization.
